Practice medical viva exams with a live AI examiner

Realistic oral-exam cases, examiner-style follow-up questions, and structured feedback for doctors preparing for high-stakes exams.

Sound familiar?

Oral exam prep rarely matches the real viva.

  • You know the material — but lose structure when you are put on the spot.

  • Practice depends on a colleague, course, or tutor who is not always available.

  • You finish a case without clear feedback on what to fix before exam day.

You should not have to wait for an examiner to practice.

How it works

Three steps to sharper viva performance

  1. Hear the case, think it through

Listen carefully to the scenario, picture the clinical situation, and organize your thoughts before you answer.

  2. Answer the examiner out loud

Respond to follow-up questions in real time as the examiner probes your reasoning, decisions, and clinical safety.

  3. See what to sharpen next

Review structured feedback on your performance — strengths, gaps, and readiness across the domains that matter most.

What you gain

Practice that prepares you for pressure

  • Confidence under questioning

Build the habit of thinking clearly when follow-ups come fast.

  • Examiner-style follow-ups

Move beyond recall into reasoning, safety, and decision-making.

  • Clear weak areas

Know what to improve next instead of guessing where you stand.

  • Standard examiner

Balanced formal SOE style with fair probing and realistic pacing.

  • Strict examiner

Heavy probing with “why”, “what if”, and “how would you defend that?” follow-ups.

  • Safety-focused examiner

Prioritises risk, escalation pathways, and common error traps.

FAQ

Questions from candidates preparing for oral exams

Clear answers about SOE and viva practice, pricing, and how Viva Examiner fits into your preparation.

Viva Examiner is a practice platform for SOE and viva-style oral exams. You work through realistic cases with a live AI examiner, answer out loud, respond to follow-up questions, and receive structured feedback when the session ends.

It is built for doctors preparing for high-stakes oral examinations. We specialize in SOE and viva preparation — not general study chat or question banks.

Practice is organized by specialty. Currently available: Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry.

ChatGPT is a general conversation tool. Viva Examiner is built only for SOE and viva practice.

You do not type prompts — you speak through a timed oral exam. The examiner presents a case, probes your reasoning, handles silence like a real chair, and follows rules written for postgraduate oral boards. Sessions draw from curated case material and question banks, not open-ended chat.

When you finish, you receive structured feedback — scores by domain, strengths, gaps, and next steps — not a casual reply in a chat thread.

It is designed to feel like a real SOE or viva chair, not a helpful chatbot. The examiner speaks to you live, asks one focused question at a time, probes weak answers, handles silence, and keeps control of the room — the same pressures you face in a postgraduate oral exam.

Cases and follow-ups draw from structured exam material for your specialty, and you can choose examiner styles — standard, strict, socratic, safety-focused, and others — to match how you want to be tested.

Use it as exam preparation practice — to build confidence and spot gaps before your real viva.

You can run 3 complete viva cases per specialty each month Each case is a full spoken session with examiner follow-ups and structured feedback when you finish.

You get the same session experience as subscribed users: choose your examiner persona, focus area, session length, and case topics. The limit applies per specialty, and your allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle.

When you have used your free cases for a specialty, you can subscribe for unlimited practice in that specialty.

1. Set up your session — Choose your specialty, case topics, session length (5, 10, or 15 minutes), examiner persona, and optional focus area.

2. Review the case — Read the clinical scenario and organise your thoughts. You have up to two minutes before the viva starts — or begin earlier when you are ready. Microphone access is required.

3. Speak through the viva — The examiner introduces themselves and begins questioning live. Answer out loud, as you would in a real SOE or viva. The examiner probes, follows up, and keeps the examination moving.

4. Get your feedback — When the session ends, your structured feedback is prepared — domain scores, strengths, gaps, and suggested next steps. Feedback is shown only after the viva finishes, not during it.

Each viva session saves your examiner transcript, your spoken answers as text (encrypted), and your structured feedback so you can review past sessions. We do not store separate audio recordings — your voice is processed live during the session.

Only you can access your sessions. They are tied to your account and are not shared with other users.

Session data is kept for 365 days, then removed automatically. Deleting your account removes your sessions immediately.

Live audio and session content are processed by trusted AI service providers to run the examination and generate feedback. We use this only to deliver the practice experience.

For full details on how we collect, use, store, and protect your data, see our privacy policy .

Start with the free tier to practice a limited number of cases each month, per specialty.

When you need more practice, subscribe to a specialty for unlimited viva sessions in that specialty. Subscriptions are billed monthly per specialty — so you only pay for the exams you are preparing for.
